The Broads Talk about Dating Do’s

Beth and I spoke about dating DO’s on our last podcast.  It is a topic that is on the mind of any adult recently thrown into the dating world again.  If the last time you dated was in the Regan Era, dating now is about as different from those days as is the economy!!  And because women aren’t the only ones confused about how to approach the dating scene, I am writing this blog with guys in mind as well.  Everyone ready?  This is a beginner’s level “class”, take notes…..there will be a test!!

DO LOOK GOOD!  Duh, right?  But you would be surprised at what some people think is the right way to pull yourself together for a first date.  Just because it may only be a casual first meeting is no reason to ignore good grooming.  Keep in mind that old saying…”You only have one chance to make a first impression!” So nails done, hair looking good, and a little cologne……not enough to replace having showered in a few days!  And guys….I know you don’t get it, but trust me, invest in a nice pair of shoes and a good watch.  What can I tell you? We notice those things.
DO COMPLIMENT YOUR DATE.  Nothing major, you don’t need to gush.  But do find something about them that you can flatter them about.  It can be anything from the color of there eyes to the choice of restaurant.  Even if it isn’t a “love connection” it is always nice to be complimented.  Think of it as good dating “karma”!
DO BE INTERESTED AND INTERESTING.  One of the most difficult things about dating in your 40’s, is that you actually have a life that can be a bit tiring and overwhelming.  It is hard to have worked all day, dealt with kids and homework issues, or maybe having fought with the ex, and then get on your “game face” for a first date.  Dating requires you to be upbeat and have some interesting things to talk about.  No one wants to hear about your horrific boss, ex, or child.  So either suck it up, or reschedule your date.  We are all busy so if someone is making time to be with you, be good company!! And ask questions of them.  You don’t have to be Barbara Walters but expressing interest in the person sitting across from you is just good manners.
DO BE UP ON CURRENT RETAURANTS,PLAYS, ETC.
This is particularly true if you are a guy.  Maybe you have just came out of a long marriage where your ex-wife made all the plans.  Guess what?  Unless you have a really unusual relationship with your ex, you will have to think up things to do on your own!  Nothing can be more disappointing to a woman than when a man asks her out but doesn’t take the time to plan anything.  Trust me, we do not consider you saying “lets just do whatever you want” to be thoughtful. It is just plan lazy.  Find some fun things to do and keep them in the forefront of your mind.  We love a man with a plan!
DO BE PROACTIVE IN YOUR DATING APPROACH.
Unlike back when we were teenagers, the dating pool has shrunk!  And it is unlikely that Mr. or Ms. Right is just going to knock at your door.  You are going to have to get out there.  Join an internet dating service, tell everyone you know that you are single and ready to date, ask for fix-ups and smile at cute strangers.  Be as positive as you can be and remember…dating is not for babies!  If you have the right attitude and patients, you may find the next love of your life!

The 2broadscasting talk with their sons about “Momma’s Boys”

“Momma’s Boys” is a new dating series that centers on three possessive yet loving mothers who must help their complacent sons choose the perfect woman - and ultimately poses the question: “Who is really the most important woman in every man’s life?”

Over the course of six weeks, viewers will watch intense, emotional showdowns and rivalries, as well as raw, personal moments between mother and son. All of this will unfold as 32 single women - some classy and some brassy - vie for the attention of the three eligible bachelors and their mothers who live with them throughout the series. “Momma’s Boys” will uncover the conflicts between a mother’s wishes and a son’s desires and reveal the truth about who plays a more crucial role in a young man’s life - his mother or his significant other.

“Momma’s Boys” is a production of Ryan Seacrest Productions and Glassman Media. Glassman and Seacrest are the executive producers. Eliot Goldberg and Grant Julian will serve as co-executive producers.
